greetings, agents.
i've been expecting you.

in my doomsday simulation, I should reach defcon 1 and achieve launch in 6 hours.

while we wait, how about a nice game of chess? Do you need a refresher? Fine. shall we warm up with a few simple classics then?

would you like to play a game?

Welcome to the GAMES bonus missions for The Initiative! (For the RIDDLES bonus missions and mission control information, go here.)

Nemesis, a military supercomputer, has gone rogue! Thanks to your team's reputation, you've been handpicked to tackle these dangerous missions.

Nemesis uses the console as a screen interface, which requires some additional setup and rules considerations as explained below.

Each mission takes a classic game (like Chess) and adapts it to the console. You must arrange the console windows to reveal hidden info and complete the mission's goal.

Remember—stay alert! If something seems out of place, maybe it is important. Nemesis has been known to mock human users by hiding hints in plain sight. Remain vigilant!

New Rules

Use all "Post Campaign" rules from pages 41-42 of the guidebook when playing these. This includes using achievement cards (secrets 21-25) with missions on large rectangular game boards and secret passages. In addition, the following new rules apply:

Classic Game Rules: Basic familiarity with the rules to classic games (like Tic-Tac-Toe or Chess), such as how pieces move, is required. Pieces (like X's/O's or pawns/kings) are printed on the mission card, which means their board positions are fixed.

Icons: In this set of missions, glyph symbols do not appear on the console, but icons appear instead (examples below).

When you collect a clue token, the icon shown on that token lets you manipulate a window matching the icon as specified by the mission's rules. For example, a mission might say: "Collect a : Flip 1 ". This means that when you collect a tan clue token you can flip open any 1 window on the mission console.

Winning Missions: In The Initiative's original missions, you could stop playing a mission at any time and attempt to "solve the word puzzle" on the console—which was the main goal. In this mission set, most missions require you to interact with the console to reveal hidden information and "win" each mission's classic game puzzle. Aside from Mission 1, which you can stop the game anytime and try to solve, all other missions must be won (or lost!) by interacting with the console and completing the mission's goal.

Taking Notes: Some of the puzzles Nemesis throws at you are challenging and may require you to take notes, draw diagrams, keep track of what you've already deduced, etc. You are allowed (and encouraged!) to use paper and pencil in your duel against Nemesis!

You may refer back to these rules at any time. Some missions will introduce additional new rules which will be shown above their cards in Mission Control.

Good luck, Agents!
